А hundred years had passed after the first celebration of Fathers Day. The United States was the first, who offered the idea of foundation the date to honour fatherhood and fathers. A person central to this event was Sonora Smart Dodd. She was enchanted with her father William Jackson Smart, the Civil War veteran and a widower, who reared his children without any help.

So, thanks to the afford of Mrs. Dodd, the first noted Fathers Day in the U.S. was held on the 19th of June, 1910 in Spokane, Washington, DC. Later, in 1916, President Wilson tried to support the celebration of the holiday and established the using of new telegraph signals with the unfurl flag on it. In spite of Presidents Calvin Coolidge recommendation in 1924 to make Fathers Day a nation holiday, it was officially established as a federal holiday only in 1972 by President Richard Nixon.
